Weekly News 9/7/11

HI!  Have you been beyond the rim of Crater Lake?  I don't mean that you fell in... just on a different road. This last Monday the family and I went up and took in a couple of very pretty waterfalls with beautiful wildflowers to boot!  One was on the road the other we had to walk in a little over a mile. It was an effort well worth the time and physical exertion, being up around 6,000 feet. I had never been that direction so this was a treat.  It just reminds me how we take things for granted.  We just do the same thing all the time and miss out on what God has for us. God is so good to us even when we are not so much.

We as an Association have a great resource coming this Saturday for your leadership.  All the info is on the Attachments.  Those of you on this E-mail list already have received it earlier today.  Danny Kuykendall  has put together a list of conferences that will hopefully steer us along an untraveled road that will give us a fresh look at what we are doing here in So. OR.  Make the effort if at all possible you and your church will probably be blessed.

The time is tight so many already have made plans.  If there is any way some of your leaders could go, the SBA will cover the $10 registration.  Please contact Lola at the NWBC at 360.882.2100 or lbowen@nwbaptist.org  to let them know you are coming.  Please also, if you are going on your own (not with the bus or myself), let me know so we can be sure to include you in the count from SBA for the registrations.

If you go with me, I will be there through the second general session.

Okay  onward to other items.

This Saturday...Foothills Baptist Church's 30th anniversary celebration.  Please plan to be there.  All former members are especially invited.  Meal and fellowship begins at 1 PM  the program starts at 4 PM.

Please help out at Lampman Road Community Garden,
I have an urgent request, and I was wandering if you could send an email out.  The community garden which is a ministry of Lampman Road is in urgent need of volunteers. I received an email from Curt Schuler, who is the garden guru, and he tells me that “We have reached a crisis for the garden – volunteer participation is not enough to accomplish harvesting. Additionally two severe new problems need even more effort:
1.     powdery mildew infestation of the squash patch in the southern plot   2. spider mites infestation of the eggplants and other areas of the northern plot”.
We need as many volunteers as we can get. Basically, anyone who so feels lead can come to Lampman Road starting at 8:00am and volunteer time in the garden. We are hoping that those that work during the week could make a special effort to come on Saturday to help us conquer all these tasks that are necessary for us to continue to bless the community for Jesus.
If anyone has questions please feel free to contact the following people:
Curt Schuler(Garden Manager)                Home: (541) 855-2576                Cell: (541)603-4781
Kevin Darr(Pastor)                                 Cell: (541) 291-3040

Did you receive your Annual Church Profile manila envelope???
Is it in the hands of the person responsible for getting it ready?  If you have not received it please let me know or talk to whomever gets the mail at your church.  If you have it,  open it up and take a look.  Think ahead a bit so your report can be to the SBA office or completed on line no later than the date on the packet.  As usual if you get me your packet filled out I would be happy to help in getting it done for you.  It is very easy to do on line as long as you have it filled out and in front of you.  One of the things that slows down the process is not saving as you go, if something is not completed on your work sheet and marking the Profile complete online!  Your leadership page can be changed at any time so you can get your folks elected then change it.  Thank you!

I will finish the New Pictoral SBA Pastor and Church Directory by the end of September.  I will be calling for info just to make sure there has not been any changes.  I will E-mail to you a PDF of your page.  If you want more photos or newer photos of the pastor and his wife, or your associates or co-pastor or ???  I do not have those photos you must send them to me.  Thank you.

In regards to the Annual Meeting, please take part.  As Southern Baptists this is like voting in a National Election for our nation.  It is important that the leaders hear what you want them to hear.  They cannot know unless you tell them.

I just want to remind you that the SBA Weekly News is on the www.siskiyoubaptist.org web site.  If you don't see what info you want here it may be there.  I am also a phone call away either at 541-956-7588 or my cell 541-659-7261.  Probably the cell phone is the best to call.  Also if you "Like" Siskiyou Baptist Association on Facebook you will get updates and reminders there as well.

Speaking of Face Book, We also have a prayer request group.  It is a closed group so it only goes to those who want to be on it.  If you are on Face Book, friend me (Nancy Goss) and tell me you want to be on the Prayer request group.  It will come up on your page when there is a request or answer or comments.

Feel free to copy the prayer requests below to give to your folks for their corporate and personnel prayer times.

Please be in prayer for a treasurer for SBA for the next year.   If you know of someone who is familiar with the job of treasurer/bookkeeping please let someone on the Admin Team know.   I do most of the work  so this person would be an overseer and report to the SBA meetings.  This person needs to be an active member of a cooperating church.  This person would be a signer on the SBA account as part of the position.  Any other questions contact Larry Brons at 541-226-6467 he can tell you what is really involved.

Also information regarding Pastor Cluster Groups Beginning in the Fall.  If you are interested call:  Joe Flegal at 360-882-2121 or E-mail at:  clusters@nwbaptist.org  Register as soon as possible.  I understand there is a group forming in Medford.

If your church hasn't received information regarding the Senior Adult Conference to be held October 24-26, 2011 at Cannon Beach Conference Center I can get that info to you.  My copy came a bit tattered or I'd add it to this newsletter.
